Model My Watershed Technical Documentation

This reference document is intended to provide technical documentation and references for the data layers, data analysis algorithms, models, computational framework, and other components that together create the hydrologic and water quality output delivered by the Model My Watershed web application.

Learn how to edit your profile, set metric or US customary units, access the API key, and link to HydroShare.

3. Layers (Viewable Mapped Data)

Detailed information and data sources for each layer are provided, organized by type, in the order in which they appear in the Layer selector.

4. Select Area of Interest (AoI)

A suite of tools is available to select areas within the lower 48 United States and begin the modeling process by summarizing land use, hydrologic soil groups, and other statistics.

5. Analyze Area of Interest (AoI)

Learn about the summary statistics provided in graphs and tables for each of the mapped data layers that impact stormwater runoff and/or water quality

6. Monitor: Multi-Catalog Free-Text Search for Datasets

The “Monitor” feature within Model My Watershed allows any user to search multiple data catalogs/repositories for related datasets.

7. Model Water Quantity and Quality

There are currently two models to choose from to predict how much water moves through your Area of Interest and the water quality of water running off.

8. Saving and Sharing Your Project

Once you have registered for a free account, you can save and share your project on Model My Watershed and/or on HydroShare.
