CADRE Spotlights Model My Watershed

Model My Watershed made the list of recommended products to support modeling in science education on the Community for Advancing Discovery Research in Education (CADRE) website.

CADRE is a network for STEM education researchers funded by the National Science Foundation’s Discovery Research K-12 (DR K-12) program. CADRE connects researchers who are endeavoring to improve education in science, technology, engineering and mathematics in, and outside of, our schools.

Why is Modeling Important?

According to CADRE, the National Research Council has identified modeling as an important practice that is “underemphasized in the context of science education.” In the NRC’s A Framework for K-12 Science Education: Practices, Crosscutting Concepts, and Core Ideas (2012) they state, “engaging in the practices of science helps students understand how scientific knowledge develops; such direct involvement gives them an appreciation of the wide range of approaches that are used to investigate, model, and explain the world.”
