This is the report for 6/14/19 – no new issues this week!

I have noticed that SL149 stopped updating on 6/12 at 11:10 EST with a few sporadic update since then.  However, SL 150 is updating normally.  Any thoughts on this Carol, Shannon?  Would it be worth contacting Hologram?

@moore, there’s nothing Hologram can help you with unless your account balance is empty.  It’s likely that 2G cell service in your area is really poor right now. You can see in the historic battery voltage graph for SL149 that for the past couple weeks the station has been experiencing a bigger drop in battery voltage.  This is likely because the poor cell coverage makes the cell module stay on longer each time to establish the connection and uses higher transmit power.  If you have visited the station recently and moved anything around inside the box, it’s possible that you might have changed the orientation of cell antenna or loosened the u.fl connection between the feed line and the board.  But if you haven’t touched anything in the past couple weeks, then the change in signal strength is probably just temporary and should return to previous levels soon.  If it continues to be a problem, then we’ll put this station on the list of stations we’re prioritizing to get the new 4G modules as soon as they’re available.

I did reboot the station and verified that the antenna connector was secure.  No joy on that.

The screen shot I sent to Hologram indicated that the connection is active so not sure where the problem is.  I copied you on that e-mail.

This is the report for 6/19/19

@roth SL111-Pennypack U and SL112-Pennypack D are not transmitting data to the MMW portal.  These sites have such long data histories that cannot visualize the historic data on dreamhoster, per Hicks.  Cannot check if heightened turbidity is related to increases in water depth or fouling because this requires the historic data view.

@rogers SL133-Upper Paulinskill has had constant extreme changes in appearance of battery signals/Mayfly logger during 6/19 except for one hour during mid afternoon today.  Hicks says this does not appear to represent actual voltage, but could this cause problems with other data?

@moore SL149-Marsh Creek U is showing infrequency of signals that are typical of other sites that are getting only infrequent cellular transmissions. While the frequency of signals has slowed down significantly since mid February 2019, the rare signal transmission being seen now has been for one week (since 6/12).

@lemon SL153-Hunter Creek U has transmitted no signals to either portal since 6/13/19 at 17:36 EST, when the battery was 4.08 v.

@fenchel SL 191 – while DO is sensitive to temperature and there is generally an inverse relationship of temperature and DO, at SL191 DO increases with warmer water temperature.  Is there a source for warmer water with high DO at this site?

This is the report for 6/28 and 7/5/19, as the 6/28 report did not successfully upload.  The battery of several sites is flashy, and this can be fixed per Hicks’ recommendation:“The easiest fix seems to be just turning off the Mayfly the next time someone makes a site visit.  Swap out the memory card (because it’s good to do that anytime you visit a station), and then unplug the battery and solar panel from the Mayfly and wait a few seconds.  Plug the panel and battery back in (make sure to put them back in the correct sockets!) and turn the logger back on.  The battery readings should stabilize and read normally for many months now.”

I will be away until 7/20.

                @wilson  SL103-Cherry D only transmits to MMW.

@roth  SL111 and SL112 both Pennypack stream data are no longer visualized on MMW, since May 7, 2019.

@bullard SL113 and SL114 Pickering tribs batteries continues to dip to an overly low level.  Try the Hicks’ protocol to re-synchronize the battery and solar panel.

@blanton SL118-Wissahickon – battery is very flashy.  Try the Hicks’ method to re-synchronize the batter and solar panel – see start of report.

@rogers SL133-Upper Paulinskill – battery still going through periods of very high and very low readings.  Try the Hicks’ protocol to re-synchronize the battery and solar panel described above.

@johnson SL172-Indian Field Br – Turbidity rose to 1100 NTU very suddenly on 6/29, now 800 NTU: check the site in case something major is covering the sensors.  Is someone else now managing the site?

@ferrell SL189-Independence Sch – Battery continues to be too flashy.  Has the re-synchronization method been tried?  See beginning of this report.

This is the report for 7/24/19.

@blanton SL117-Sandy Run CTD signals are highly abnormal; does not appear that sensors were pulled out of the water.

This is the report for 8/4/19.

@zador SL130 – W Branch Red Clay – There have been no signal transmissions since 7/10/19.  This could be just loss of cellular power, but the length of this gap is not typical for this site.

@rogers SL133 – Upper Paulinskill – the battery is flagging, as low as 2.9 v, which is extreme for this site.  Try resynchronizing battery and solar panel.

@Fenchel SL176 – Schuylkill River in Pottstown – The periodicity of the tides is not visualized in the depth readings on MMW, as it was on dreamhoster.  Also, depth is currently reading around 6-20 cm; has the position of the sensors changed?  Has the CTD sensor been cleaned?

@armstrong, re SL176 is the Schuylkill at Batrams Garden station not the Schuylkill at Pottstown station (SL191).  SL191 does not have tidal influence.

@armstrong @bressler SL176 has not been transmitting data to the internet since 7/19. We think we’ve lost our 2G signal and are hoping to have our station upgraded to 4G this week (I am already coordinating this).
