Checked station on 6/8. Cleaned solar panel, cleared sediment from around submerged sensors. Opened box and turned it off and then back on, made sure all connections were secure. Red and green lights came on briefly, then yellow light remained on. Returned today and cut back some vegetation that might be impeding sunlight being captured by panels and repositioned panel to face more direct sunlight. Still no data being sent to website. Any advice on how to check internet connectivity at the station?

This is the report for 6/14

@lawler, sl102, Musconetcong D at Riverside Pk – Signals became much less frequent on 6/2/20. Battery down to 3.63v.

@blanton, sl117, Sandy Run at Roychester Pk – Stream depth is reading negative mm, even when conductivity readings are made (e.g., on 6/11/20).

@collins, sl158, Primrose Ck, Solebury Sch – Depth went to -23.7 mm on 6/2, and went to -0.3 mm on 6/11.  Abnormal pattern repeating is a decline in depth to -0 mm, then depth returns to about 270 mm, and then persistently declines (not all data points can be viewed).

@melvin, @ruggiero, sl171, Loper Run – Turbidity is >1200 NTU and sensors should be checked. Water depth is reading so high that it may indicate a sensor problem – about 2.25 to >3 meters in depth. Depth has increased over time.  Increasing depth began in February 2020 and has been in a persistent positive gradient.

This is the report for 6/20/20

@ zador, @hutchinson, @mcgovern.  sl130, W Branch Red Clay at Bucktoe Pres has not transmitted data since 6/13/20. Battery was 4.12 v at that time.

@collins. sl158, Primrose at Solebury Sch depth is not reading normal, as depth sometimes drops to -0.  Depth was around -80mm on 6/16 a and 6/17.

Re SL130–I just checked the site. The switch was on but the little lights were flashing red and green. At 3:12 pm I turned the switch off and back on. At 3:21 I rechecked and only the green light was lit. In between I cleaned the sensors. Let me know if all ok with transmission now. –Diane

@mcgovern, Red Clay, West Branch at Bucktoe Preserve (BCRC7S)SL130, has a bad 2G cell board – @hicks will replace with new 4G cell board asap – she has a backlog right now though because of Covid related delays.  Feel free to be in touch as needed and to check in re planning the upgrade.

I put a new 2G board on that station about a month ago, but it didn’t come back online.  Apparently there is no longer a strong enough 2G signal at that locations, so that station will have to be upgraded to a 4G LTE module.  It’s possible the current lack of signal drained the battery and is causing the board to act strangely. Did you retrieve the memory card when you were there?  Can you email us the most recent data file from the card?

                  Report for 6/27/20

@coffey, @moyer, @tice, @molloy.  SL136, Hosensack Ck, Hwy 29.  The battery is persistently dropping, now down to 3.6v; consider recharging the battery.

@melvin, @ruggiero. SL172, Indian Field Br.  Depth is going daily from ~100mm to ~200mm (sometimes less) and returning to 100 mm in the span of a few hours. Is this expected based on daily discharges to this site? Daily fluctuations are often found but the degree of fluctuation has increased.

@fenchel, @george, @clark.  SL191, Schuylkill River at Towpath Park.  CTD sensor does not seem right.  Conductivity began to read 0 µS/cm on 6/22 for 12-24+ hrs at a time. CTD temperature rising to ~33oC; is that possible at this site? Depth is very low or negative, reaching 100mm only during rain event.

I can check the site out tomorrow after work.  It does have a tendency to not be under water.

@ruggiero, @melvin, the recent depth changes do appear to be real – the conductivity goes down indicating dilution during the depth spikes (attached, circled in red).  As @armstrong points out though these are significant depth changes so it might be good to confirm accuracy of the data as well as determine what is causing the depth spikes.  Conductivity is not indicating any substantial amounts of dissolved material entering the stream during this time but that doesn’t mean there isn’t anything – simply could be that conductivity isn’t picking it up.

Also, it looks like turbidity sensor is fouled – currently running steadily in the 150-200NTU range (this would be expected during a storm but not at baseflow – if stream is clear-ish and at baseflow turbidity should 0-10 NTU).

Just got back from SL191, Towpath.  The sensors are mostly above the water.
