Several recent and ongoing updates have changed the Model My Watershed® user interface and increased the number of functions available for modeling watershed hydrology and water quality. A hands-on virtual training session was presented at the 2020 Watershed Congress by David Arscott, Ph.D., of Stroud Water Research Center, introducing participants to the general use and latest updates to the ModelMW web application.
The Model My Watershedweb application (ModelMW) has been developed to enable the public and watershed protection professionals alike the means to easily model the influence of land use and watershed restoration practices on water quantity and quality. The ModelMW app enables the visualization of geographic data that describe watershed conditions, which help to understand effects of current and future changes to landuse and implementation of stormwater best management practices on stream water quality.
Watch the video recording (below or on YouTube) to explore the latest ModelMW features and data layers, and learn how this professional-grade, watershed-modeling tool can support the collaborative efforts of citizens, conservation practitioners, municipal decision-makers, researchers, educators, and students to advance knowledge and stewardship of fresh water. The session includes case studies of the use of ModelMW for estimating the water quality benefits that forest land protection may provide.
