Model My Watershed was reviewed in the portfolio section of New Knowledge Organization’s website.
New Knowledge Organization, based in New York City and Oceanside, California, is a nonprofit think tank and planning group that helps cultural, educational, research, health, environmental, media, and free-learning organizations. They aim to expand programs in ways that increase social knowledge, positive lived experiences, and ecological harmony.
Stroud Water Research Center, based near Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, created a pioneering new education tool, Model My Watershed (MMW). This online application enabled students to take an active role in exploring the hydrology of a watershed close to their own communities. Supported in part by the National Science Foundation, this project increased our understanding of how place-based, self-directed learning tools can positively influence students’ inclinations toward STEM careers.
