About the Tool

The Leaf Pack Network® is an international network of teachers, students, and citizen monitors investigating their local stream ecosystems. Following instructions in the Leaf Pack Network Manual, monitors use tree leaves and aquatic insects to determine the health of their stream and understand its ecology.

If you can’t get to a stream to perform a study, you now have a virtual option! The Leaf Pack Network® Simulation is a web-based virtual stream study in a field notebook format that engages users in a series of exercises to determine the health score of four different streams by observing habitat characteristics, conducting a biological assessment based on macroinvertebrates, and performing virtual chemical tests.
